British Safety Council to meet Professor Löfstedt

5 Jul

The British Safety Council will shortly be submitting its evidence to the independent review of health and safety legislation being led by Professor Ragnar Löfstedt of King’s College, London.

The review, being conducted on behalf of the government, is in the process of gathering evidence from stakeholders about the effectiveness of our present health and safety regulatory framework and in particular the two hundred sets of health and safety regulations currently in place.  We recently surveyed our members seeking their views on a range of issues including the potential to merge, simplify or abolish regulations and to what extent the concept ‘reasonably practicable’ helped them manage the burden of regulation.  The message from the vast majority of our members was clear – the regulatory framework has significantly helped to improve health and safety.

Our chief executive Alex Botha and chair of trustees Lynda Armstrong will be meeting Professor Löfstedt on 11 July and will have the opportunity to set out the views of our members.
