Energy Networks Association annual SHE conference

An inspirational presentation from Lawrence Waterman, Head of Health and Safety, Olympic Delivery Authority, speaking at the Energy Networks Association annual SHE conference.

Overriding the London 2012 goal was to help regenerate local area and leave a lasting legacy for local and general population.

Leaders on all construction projects committed to creating healthiest, safest and greenest games.

Immense health, safety and environmental management achievements on construction projects – AFR is 0.18; 18 periods of a million hours worked without a reportable; near 100% reporting; adoption of near miss reporting as a norm even more impressive.

Key to success was the leadership programme put in place. Driving force was to delegate leadership and authority to the major project directors. Also key was celebrating success of contribution of individuals and teams. CEOs of all contractors lead by example.

The health and wellbeing programmes were groundbreaking too with an impressive record of identifying and treating health conditions of construction workers rather than excluding them.

All of those involved in the construction for London 2012 can be proud of their achievements.
